What should I expect?
When you visit an Osteopath for the first time there will be a thorough physical examination that may require you to remove some clothing. Underwear is always left on. The examination will include any relevant neurological tests. This allows for a full diagnosis and an individual treatment plan to be developed with you. The first visit (consultation) takes about thirty to forty-five minutes. Further sessions last for thirty minutes.
What does treatment consist of?
Treatments consists of manipulation and stretching of the joints, muscles ligaments and also deep tissue massage to help release muscle tension.
In most cases it is followed by advice to help prevent recurrence of the problem.
Many problems require more than one visit so you may be advised to return for another treatment.
How will I feel after treatment?
Because we are all unique, everyone responds differently. After treatment you may feel relieved and energetic or you may feel a bit tired and achy.
What is a manipulation?
A "manipulation" is a procedure used by osteopaths to restore proper movement to a joint and reduce any irritation of the nerves. It also
causes a reflex relaxation of the surrounding muscle tissue. Some patients do not like this technique but we will discuss it in detail with you
and obtain your permission before attempting any such technique.
